Mission Statement

o promote and increase awareness of proper tree planting and care in Nevada and provide leadership, development and support for professional and volunteer community forestry programs across the state.‘

For the past decade the Nevada Shade Tree Council has been a lead organization Nevada promoting tree planting and related educational programs for tree care and maintenance. The Council, a non-profit volunteer organization, was founded to serve as the advisory council to the State Forester for the NevadaCall now for a free Stop Topping Bumper Sticker Division of Forestry’s federally funded Urban Forestry Program.  The Council’s Education Committee carries on year around activities that may include workshops, tree plantings, and the award and presentations of arboriculture resource books and materials to selected libraries around the state.

Books have been placed in the following libraries: Carson City Library, the Las Vegas Sahara West Library, Elko Library, Yerington, White Pine County Library in Ely, Pahrump Library. Libraries in Fallon, Boulder City and the White Pine Bookmobile will receive books in 2000. Other projects include:
  • Presentations of a slide program developed on the ‘Benefits of Urban Forestry’.
  • STOP TOPPING campaign and bumper sticker in 1999.
  • The review and recommendation of Urban and Community Forestry Program Grant Proposals.
    In 2000, the development of a ‘tree poster guide’ focusing on appropriate trees to be planted regionally in the state.
