Nursery and Seedbank Program

State Forestry Nursery Opens May 14, 2008

The purpose of the nursery program is to encourage conservation through offering quality shrubs and trees grown to sizes suitable for conservation plantings on private and public lands. Plant materials must be used for conservation purposes such as:

  • Windbreaks
  • Shelterbelts
  • Woodlots
  • Erosion Control
  • Wildlife Habitat
  • Christmas Tree Farms
  • Streambank Stabilization
  • Greenstripping
  • Mine Reclamation

Who's Eligible
Private landowners outside the boundaries of incorporated cities who own a minimum of 1 acre or two or more and/or landowners of contiguous, adjoining lots which total one acre or more qualify for this program.

The program operates two nurseries in the state.

The Washoe Nursery is located in Washoe County between Carson City and Reno; the nursery serves the northern part of the state.

Southern Nevada Nursery -- In the south, Clark County is host to the Southern Nevada Nursery. The nursery's supplie plant materials adapted to the region they serves.

The Nevada Seedbank maintains native seed and seeding equipment for private landowners and public agencies with acreage that needs seeding for conservation purposes.
